Personal Experience Speech Assignment

Guidelines for Speech 1 - Personal Experience

Speech #1 Personal Experience Speech

*6 minute speech plus/minus 30 seconds without any time penalty
*2 notecards front side only, 4x6, no full sentences, except one direct quote is
allowed
*Visuals are not required but allowed.
*2 interviews are required (you may interview friends, family members, co-workers, etc.)

Speeches should tell the audience something unique and interesting about you. Avoid trying to tell complete life stories.

You may discover ideas for the speeches by considering the following questions:
1.What is the most important thing about the environment in which you grew up?
2.Was there a particular person – a friend, relative, or childhood hero – who had a
major impact on your life?
3.Have you been marked by some unusual experience?
4.Are you characterized by an activity that brings pleasure and meaning to your
life?
5.Is the work you do a determining factor in making you who you are?
6.Are you best characterized by your goals or purpose in life?
7.Are you best described by some value that you hold dear?

Introductory speeches should be carefully designed and structured.
